Lesson 149

We started the block with talking about where we are in history, and the end of the feudal system.

We thought about the different factors (social, political, economic, religious etc.) that shape societal change, then focused on different social factors that might alter society.

We watched a Ted Talk on AI around this issue, then discussed.

Tomorrow we continue the work!

Lesson 147

We listened to a brief video in Middle English.

We looked at the same text as it would translate to Modern English and as it appears in Middle English.

Students continued their viewing of A Knight's Tale, which we will finish next day (culminating in a little quiz game about both content of the film and the course).

Lesson 144

Students did a gallery walk and then handed in their manor diagrams today (Anyone who did not do so should bringing it, with the rubric, to tutorial post haste).

Students practised their scripts - run through twice - with other members of their Medieval Role groups.

For tomorrow's class, students will need:

  •  clear notes, or cue cards, so they are not reading right off of their note sheet
  • a costume piece and prop (full costumes very welcome)
  • some voice/character ready to perform
  • the rubric that goes with their presentations/questions etc.
  • ALL OTHER MATERIALS

After a brief introduction and rubric distribution, students spent today's block working on preparing for tomorrow's interview work.

A reminder that manor drawings and in-role interview questions are due in tomorrow.

Students will be doing practice interviews with an alternate group - final interviews will occur in Thursday's class!

Students are thinking about characters and costume pieces!

Lesson 142

 Today was a big day!

Students received:

  • Law in the Middle Ages sheet
  • Supplementary Materials sheet for their role
  • Interview Questions for "Roles in the Middle Ages"

Humanities B also had a presentation for the Mooshide campaign   and did a ballot for next year's Grade 9 Rep.

We talked about all of the different courts in Medieval society, and filled in the sheet on Law.

We talked about writing in role, then looked at the interview sheets.

Students had the remainder of the class to work on their Manor Drawings, research, or interview questions.

While manors could easily be due tomorrow, they are coming in for Wednesday's class. STUDENTS MUST REMEMBER that their interview answers mus also be complete for Wednesday's class, so they will need to manage time accordingly.

Tomorrow's class is a work block - bring all necessary materials!

Those who have missed classes and are left with questions should pop in for tutorial to ensure they are completely clear/have necessary sheets etc.

Lesson 141

Although in different spaces due to AP exams, we managed to make it work!

We finished the last video from yesterday's class, and Knights and Serfs got their videos today.

When not watching/taking notes, students worked on their manors.

Anyone who missed their video will need to come in to tutorial - UNLESS they received a message on teams.

Have a great weekend!

Lesson 140

Students are working on their "Roles in the Middle Ages" projects.

The projects will ultimately have four parts:

  • Manor Drawing
  • Research
  • Interview Answers
  • Presentation of Interview in Groups

In today's class, students received the assignment sheet for their manor drawings, and began that work.

The MERCHANTS and NOBLES also received their research notes package, and watched the film section of their material. Any member of these groups who missed today's video will need to come to tutorial to make up what they have missed.

We will continue this work tomorrow - the class will be focused on manor work, research, and the Knights and Peasants watching their videos.

Bring colouring supplies over the next few classes!

Students got their roles for upcoming projects, and were introduced to the first part of the work.

COLOURING MATERIALS SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO CLASS over the next few days.

We finished the video of the Battle of Hastings.

We did a Kahoot to review the battle, then began text work on the feudal system. Students are welcome to tutorial, if they'd like to get ahead, but will also have about 10 minutes next class to finish up this work.

Pages 9 and 10 of the package correspond with pages 45-47 of the textbook (copies in the classroom, and the Writing Lab).

Tomorrow, students will continue work on feudal society, and be assigned working groups and societal roles for their upcoming project.
